Seahawks-49ers reflection
By: Jake Rajala
The Seattle Seahawks squashed the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 41-6. The 49ers looked like a JV team in this dogfight. With that simply said, I’m going to lay out five things we learned from the game.
The Kenneth Walker show
The former Michigan State Spartan, Kenneth Walker, was a man on a mission against SF. He did his best Marshawn Lynch impression. Walker unleashed 116 rushing yards on just 19 carries. Furthermore, he registered three rushing touchdowns! He also had 29 receiving yards. The Hawks really rely on their play-action game (from Klint Kubiak), so it’s pivotal that Walker shows up in the run game.
Earnest Jones
Earnest Jones gives off Malcolm Smith vibes. Earnest Jones recorded an interception and a forced fumble in the playoff game. He had five ints this season, which earned him a spot on the second-team All-Pro team. He also had several pass deflections.
CMAC, where art thou?
The former Offensive Player of the Year, Christian McCaffrey, did not stand out yesterday. It isn’t quite his fault, however. In the blink of an eye, they were down 17-0, so they couldn’t rely too much on their run game. CMAC merely notched 35 yards on 11 carries. Meanwhile, Purdy ran for 37 yards.
Demarcus Lawrence
Demarcus Lawrence turned back the clock against the 49ers. He had a sack and two forced fumbles. The Boys didn’t only move on from Micah Parsons. They also let Lawrence exit last off-season. It’s vital that the Hawks can pressure the QB without blitzing.
Jake Tonges
Jake Tonges needed to step up with George Kittle injured. Well, he did make key plays. He unleashed five catches for 59 yards. He had a fine 16 yard catch. I would like to see the 49ers invest more in the TE position, especially with George Kittle being injured a few times in his career.
The 49ers-Seahawks showdown was expected to be down to the wire. Clearly, that wasn’t the case. Hopefully, the two teams are healthy and seeking out blood in their next battle.
