Best QB options for the Texans
By: Jake Rajala
It would appear CJ Stroud was playing Bird Box today. He threw four interceptions and he would have thrown more if the defense could catch. With that said, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Stroud, who peaked as a rookie, was replaced in 2026. Hence, I’m going to lay out five QB options for the Texans moving forward.
Mac Jones
The Alabama legend, Mac Jones, looked like the quarterback who went to the Pro Bowl as a rookie. He unleashed 13 touchdowns to six interceptions this season. More importantly, he went 5-3. Jones registered a PFF grade of 77.1, which was 13th among QBs. Let it be known that he didn’t have Brandon Aiyuk, and other pieces (such as Trent Williams) were MIA.
Malik Willis
I’m thrilled for Malik Willis. He went 2-0 last season and threw 3 TDs to 0 ints. He showed that he wasn’t a fluke, as he looked efficient when he filled in for Jordan Love. He lost his start, but he still threw 3 TD and ran for 2 TDs this season. He is a free agent after this season, as well.
Spencer Rattler
Spencer Rattler has off the charts arm talent. He just needs to make more “wow” plays. The Saints QB1 Tyler Shough is a stud on third and long. Rattler needs to find his gifts. Perhaps he can be more effective in the red zone with his legs. He has too much potential to be a QB2 long term.
Daniel Jones
Danny Dimes was an admirable starter for Indy, but his team still missed the playoffs without him. Jonathan Taylor also fell off a cliff in the second half of the season. Jones is bound to be a free agent in 2026, and he could look around for the best situation. He could get help from a Top-3 defense in Houston.
Geno Smith
Geno Smith blatantly didn’t pan out in Sin City. This doesn’t mean he has worse arm talent than before. I’d love to see him in a situation where he gets more talent at WR. We saw him shine with DK Metcalf. I’d love to see the Texans bring in another weapon for him, too.
