Best candidates for the Buffalo Bills
By: Jake Rajala
It’s official (and arguably puzzling) that Sean McDermott is out as the head coach of the Buffalo Bills. He has only had one losing season, and he has had three 13 win seasons. I will cut to the chase and unfold five HC candidates to replace him.
Klint Kubiak
Klint Kubiak is arguably the best offensive coordinator in the league. He can be the next “Ben Johnson” by winning his division in his first season as a head coach. Kubiak’s offense is second in PPG, despite having Sam Darnold, who isn’t exactly a Top-10 QB. Kubiak is the perfect person to pair with the current Bills offensive coordinator, Joe Brady. It would be like Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla working together.
Brian Daboll
“Hello darkness, my old friend”
Brian Daboll has proven to succeed with Josh Allen. In 2020, Daboll’s Bills offense ranked second in points and then third in points in 2021! I don’t blame Daboll for his situation in the Big Apple. The former first round pick Kadarius Toney didn’t pan out. They struggled to have a stellar OL. Heck, they didn’t even have Saquon for half the time.
Jon Gruden
Jon Gruden is another QB whisperer to be a fine fit with Allen. Gruden has a Super Bowl ring, and he was 11-10 in his past two seasons with the Raiders. Gruden is the guy who will actually build around Allen. Instead of “surviving”, he will be “thriving”.
Rex Ryan
We all know Rex Ryan was the HC of the Bills at one point. Perhaps he wants to make a reunion. Raheem Morris fled Atlanta and then returned. Sometimes it works to get back together with an ex. Ryan could build the defense, which was 12th in PPG allowed last season. They rank 26th in sacks, unfortunately, so there’s room to grow.
Mike McCarthy
I still find it odd that Mike McCarthy got fired from Dallas after having three straight 12 win seasons. Well, McCarthy could move on with a better team. He also has won a Super Bowl. He knows what it takes to succeed late in the season. McCarthy always lands with a passionate fan base (whether it was the Cowboys or the Packers).
