Why Drake Maye won’t win MVP
By: Jake Rajala
The former third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Drake Maye, has been seen as one of the top candidates for MVP. Instead of unfolding a few reasons why he could win MVP, I’m going to state a few reasons why he won’t win MVP.
- Touchdowns
Let’s be honest, Matthew Stafford is the other candidate at the QB spot who has a strong chance to win MVP. Matter in fact, he arguably has the edge over Maye. So, why is that? Well, he has thrown 46 touchdowns! Meanwhile, Maye has only thrown for 31 touchdowns. There is no need to worry. Brady threw 28 passing touchdowns in his third season.
On the flipside, Maye does have a passer rating of 113.5. This is ahead of Stafford, who has a passer rating of 109.2.
- Josh Allen
Josh Allen is regarded as the third best candidate to win MVP this season. He has unleashed 39 total touchdowns this season! He can get it done with his arm and legs. He does all of the dirty work. After Aaron Rodgers and Caleb Williams made magic with their legs, Allen is the QB who dazzled outside the pocket. Let’s not forget that Allen defeated Maye in their last head to head showdown.
- Consistency
Maye didn’t exactly finish strong, which is normally done by MVP candidates. In his last nine showdowns, he had five games with 2 or fewer TDs. In his first eight games, he had two games of three touchdowns and four other games of 2 TDs.
We all know that Tom Brady was the last Pats QB to win MVP, which came in 2017. He also won it in 2010, and 2007 Maye has had a similar start as Brady thus far. I’dl love to see him finish it off by winning a Super Bowl in his second season.
