Replacement options for Kyler Murray

Potential replacement options for Kyler Murray

By: Jake Rajala

It wouldn’t be a surprise (to say the least) if the Arizona Cardinals traded Kyler Murray. He has been average or injured in his Cardinals tenure. With that said, I must lay out replacement options for Murray.

Jacoby Brissett

Jacoby Brissett filled in admirably for Murray last season. I might be biased as he was my fantasy QB. He threw 23 TDs to eight interceptions. He only won one game, but it should be noted that he got little help from his defense. His defense ranked 29th in PPG allowed. The biggest issue with Jacoby is that he’s 33 years old.

Tua Tagovailoa

It’s not time to put a nail in the coffin for Tua. He is only 27 years old! We witnessed Sam Darnold turn things around and win a Super Bowl at 28. Let’s not forget that Tua once led the league in passing yards and completion percentage. He has wicked arm talent. He threw 15 interceptions last season. Nonetheless, we’ve seen the likes of Eli Manning and Philip Rivers (who are both future Hall of Famers) lead the league in interceptions.

Kenny Pickett

Kenny Pickett knows how to win at the end of the day. He has an 16-11 career record. He went 1-1 with the Raiders last season. Pickett is 27 years old, so he’s still finding many ways to improve. Pickett could compete for the QB1 spot. I don’t believe he’s good enough to be named the starter before the preseason.

Spencer Rattler

Spencer Rattler has impressive arm strength. He excels in throwing the ball on the run. I expect the Saints to trade Rattler, after it’s obvious that Tyler Shough appears to be their savior at QB. Rattler threw 8 TDs and 5 ints in eight games. According to Clutch Points, the Steelers should be urged to acquire Rattler.

Daniel Jones

It appeared that Daniel Jones turned his career around this season. He threw 19 touchdowns to eight interceptions. He also had a 68% completion percentage. He even had an 8-5 record! He was bound to be a Pro Bowler. PFF notes that the Colts and Jones have mutual interest in getting back together.

Mac Jones

Mac Jones is arguably the best QB2 in the league. Under Kyle Shanahan, he went 5-3. Furthermore, he unleashed 13 passing TDs to six interceptions. He had a PFF grade of 77.1, which was 13th among QBs. Jones won’t be a free agent, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be traded. I believe the 49ers could get a second round pick for him.

Davis Mills

Davis Mills is not a bad QB. He threw five touchdowns to only one interception. Most importantly, he went 3-0! I believe he would have done better than CJ Stroud in the playoffs, as Stroud unleashed four interceptions in the divisional round. Mills is only 27 years old. Hence, there is a lot of football left in him. He’s only a year older than Tyler Shough!
