Best RB targets for the Chiefs
By: Jake Rajala
The Kansas City Chiefs don’t have the same explosion on offense that they once had. They had versatility and strength at running back. Those days are gone. Hopefully, they can return to getting back to mowing down defenses in the running game. Hence, I’m going to lay out the best RB targets for the Chiefs.
Travis Etienne
According to Newsweek, Etienne is strongly considered a fit for the Chiefs. Etienne ran for 1,107 rushing yards and several touchdowns last season. Furthermore, he registered 292 receiving yards. He wasn’t perfect, however. He only had a 72.6 PFF grade, which wasn’t exceptional.
Alvin Kamara
Alvin Kamara is the older version of Etienne. Kamara can still run excellent routes. He also has a high football IQ. I would like to see him have a change in scenery. He was ranked as the worst RB by PFF. Even if he bounces back, I’d like to see him try to win a Super Bowl. I would put my money on the Chiefs winning another Super Bowl before the Saints.
Saquon Barkley
Saquon Barkley took a step back in 2025. I’m not saying he willl have a sharp decline like Zeke and Todd Gurley had late in their career. Barkley can still make defenders miss in open space. I’d love to see him with a better play-caller, such as Andy Reid. He had Kellen Moore in 2024, but he didn’t have him in 2025.
Aaron Jones
Aaron Jones needs to focus on winning a Super Bowl right now. He is 31 years old, which is old for a RB. He is on a dreadful, Vikings team, who arguably have the worst starting QB right now. Jones can do it all. He can be a short yardage, outside the tackle back, and catch the ball nicely. Hopefully, his services are maximized elsewhere.
Tyler Allgeier
Tyler Allgeier deserves to be a bell-cow back. It’s not easy for him with Bijan Robinson in the backfield, however. He is explosive, hard to bring down on the first tackle attempt. Of course, we all know he never fumbles the ball, which is very helpful for a team in the playoffs.
Honorable Mention
K9
I believe K9 is the best free agent RB. If he doesn’t want to return to the team that won the Super Bowl, perhaps he will be intrigued about joining the best QB (Patrick Mahomes) in the league. He will likely get a hefty, long term deal.
