Chiefs to-do list this offseason
By: Jake Rajala
The Kansas City Chiefs showed that they aren’t flawless. They missed the playoffs last season (after winning three Super Bowls in recent memory), and Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL in the process. With that said, there is a lot of work to be done for KC this offseason. So, I’m going to lay out a to-do list for them.
5. Bring back Tyreek Hill
It wasn’t long ago that Tyreek Hill was voted as “the best overall player”. Hill has vital chemistry with Andy Reid and Mahomes. The Chiefs could also use help at WR. They don’t have a 1k yard wideout right now. It felt like yesterday when Mahomes connected on 3rd and forever to Hill against the 49ers in the Super Bowl.
4. Keep Travis Kelce
Yes, Travis Kelce will be a free agent this offseason. It would be a shame if he left the Chiefs. Kelce and Mahomes are the best QB-TE tandem in the league. Kelce has slowly declined, but he can still be reliable on 3rd downs and key situations. He was fourth in receiving yards among tight ends. I can’t foresee him wanting to break up with Mahomes.
3. Bring in another DE
Chris Jones, who was known to make mental errors in key situations, is still dominant. He can’t do everything himself. He needs another edge player next to him. Felix Anudike-Uzomah (with three career sacks and 41 tackles in two seasons) isn’t the answer, simple enough. George Karlaftis is a modest DE, but he’s not a Pro Bowler.
2. Bring in a quality QB2
Minshew Mania isn’t a worthy backup to Mahomes. He lacked consistency and looked lost in his limited time. It’s very possible that Mahomes isn’t ready for Week 1, too. They will really need a sharp QB2. I would like to see Teddy Bridgewater or Marcus Mariota work to be the QB2.
1. Draft Jeremiyah Love
The Chiefs need to rebuild their RB spot, especially with Kareem Hunt being 30 years old and a free agent. Isiah Pacheco hasn’t proven to be reliable or electric. I’d love to see the Chiefs swing for the fences at RB. With Pacheco, the Chiefs could slowly mowe down defenses and have a beautiful play-action game with Xavier Worthy and Kelce.
