A key free agent signing for each team
By: Jake Rajala
Free agency is around the corner. The NFC South was one of the worst NFL divisions last season. It’s time for each NFC South squad to improve. They could do so by adding more talent. Hence, I’m going to project a key free agent signing for each team.
New Orleans Saints: Breece Hall
There is a lot of buzz surrounding the Jets RB Breece Hall and the New Orleans Saints. The Saints love inside zone run plays, which fits Hall’s preference. The Saints also need to move on from Alvin Kamara, who is 30 years old and overpaid. PFF dubbed him as the worst RB last season. Hall is only 24 years old, which is two years younger than his QB, Tyler Shough.
Honorable Mention: Rashid Shaheed
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Von Miller
Von Miller is still playing at a high level, despite being 36 years old. He recorded nine sacks, 15 QB hits, six tackles for loss, and 26 combined tackles. The Bucs are the favorite to win the NFC South next season, in my opinion. This could be alluring to Miller. The Bucs need a superb edge rusher, as they were 19th in sacks last season.
Honorable Mention: Haason Reddick
Carolina Panthers: Jauan Jennings
I don’t believe the Panthers will get the likes of Mike Evans, Tyreek Hill, or Deebo Samuel. I believe they will get a second tier WR, such as Jauan Jennings. They are desperate for a well-rounded WR. Jauan unleashed nine touchdowns last season. He also notched 975 yards in 2024. Bryce Young needs more weaponry if he wants to be a Top-15 QB.
Honorable Mention: Keenan Allen
Atlanta Falcons: Marcus Mariota
The former Heisman winner, Marcus Mariota, went 2-6, but he kept the Commanders alive in many of the games. He threw 10 touchdowns to several interceptions. He also notched 297 rushing yards. Mariota is 32 years old, so he has many seasons left to perform. The former first round pick, Michael Penix, has freak arm talent, but he hasn’t been consistent enough to be guaranteed the QB1 role. Obviously, Mariota has already played with the Falcons.
Honorable Mention: Joe Flacco
The NFC South teams are all a step or two away from being a lethal team. We witnessed each NFC North team have a winning record last season. I could foresee this occurring with each NFC South squad in 2026.
