NFC West: free agent fits for each team
By: Jake Rajala
The wild NFC West is arguably the best division in the league. This doesn’t mean there isn’t room to improve. With that said, I’m going to lay out a key free agent signing for each squad.
San Francisco 49ers: Trey Hendrickson
It may seem difficult for the 49ers to lure in the sack master, Trey Hendrickson. Nonetheless, they certainly need him. The 49ers were dead last in sacks last season. Nick Bosa was injured, but he will be back healthy and motivated to return to his DPOY days. Hendrickson and Bosa would arguably be the best DE tandem in the NFL.
Arizona Cardinals: D.J. Reader
I don’t expect Calais Campbell to play another season. For crying out loud, he is 39 years old. I’d like to see the Cardinals go in a younger direction and acquire D.J. Reader. The former Texan hasn’t shined in recent memory. He can still take up a lot of space quickly. He recorded three sacks, four TFLs, and eight QB hits in 2024. Last season, he honestly didn’t stand out at all.
Seattle Seahawks: Demario Davis
Ernest Jones is excellent against the pass. He had five interceptions last season. So, I’d love to see them have a more stout run defender at LB. Davis had 141 combined tackles last season, which was a career high. Davis will also most want to pursue a Super Bowl ring at 36 years old, so Seattle makes a ton of sense.
Los Angeles Rams: David Njoku
The Rams have Colby Parkinson at tight end. He brought home eight touchdowns last season. He only recorded 408 yards, however. I’d love to see the Rams bring in David Njoku. He can stretch the field and catch 50/50 balls. He has already said his “good-byes” to the city of Cleveland.
The NFC West could feature a few teams in the playoffs yet again next season. Most likely, we could see a couple of NFC West squads in the NFC Championship, if they reel in a star free agent or two.
