To do list for the Saints this offseason

Bold predictions for the Saints right now

By: Jake Rajala

The New Orleans Saints went 5-4 under Tyler Shough. Clearly, they want to keep the momentum and reach the playoffs next season. Well, there are some things that have to be taken care of this offseason. Hence, I’m going to lay out a to do list for the Saints this offseason.

1. The Saints must keep Cameron Jordan and Demario Davis

The Saints have a couple of vital decisions to make with their veteran leaders on defense. Cameron Jordan and Demario Davis are those two veterans. They both turn 37 years old this offseason. They are still playing at a high level. Davis had a career high in combined tackles and Jordan unleashed 10.5 sacks. Nonetheless, I can’t imagine that they play more than one season. I expect them to come back and aspire to make a deep playoff run with their 26 year old QB.

2. Alvin Kamara should be cut

I don’t love Alvin Kamara, to say the least. PFF ranked him as the 54th best RB (out of 54 RBs). Hell, Audric Estime even played better than him. Kamara is also underperforming on a hefty contract. This makes it hard for the Saints to wish to keep him. If the Jets don’t use a franchise tag on Breece Hall, I expect the Saints to be one of the top potential landing spots for him.

3. The Saints should bring back Marshon Lattimore

I expect Marshon Lattimore to be a cap casualty and hit the open market this offseason. It would make sense for him to reunite with the team he played many years for: the New Orleans Saints. The Saints have Kool-Aid McKinstrey and Alontae Taylor. I believe they are just missing another CB on the outside.

4. The Saints should trade Spencer Rattler

Let’s face it: Shough is the face of the franchise. This doesn’t mean Spencer Rattler isn’t worthy of being a QB1 in this league. He has off the charts arm talent. He also knows how to take command of an offense. I’d love to see the Saints flip him for a mid-round pick.

5. The Saints should sign a veteran WR

Even if the Saints draft a WR early, I’d love to see them bring in veteran wideout, such as Keenan Allen or Deebo Samuel. Deebo could take some snaps at RB, similar to what Taysom Hill did for the Saints. Kellen Moore could try to lure his former, disgruntled WR in A.J. Brown, as well.

Honorable Mention:

Let Taysom Hill leave

I believe the swiss army knife, Taysom Hill, has lost a step. This should be expected, as he’s 35 years old! It’s obviously uncommon for ball-carriers to shine in their 30s. Hill could make plays at TE, but the Saints don’t need a TE, as they have Juwan Johnson and Foster Moreau. I just don’t think it’s worth giving Hill a lot of money to stay. He should go to Denver and play under Sean Payton.
