Best WR targets for the Jaguars ahead of the draft

Best WR targets for the Jaguars right now

By: Jake Rajala

The Jacksonville Jaguars have a couple of question marks at the wide receiver spot in my opinion. Brian Thomas Jr. took a step back last season by unleashing 707 yards and two touchdowns last season. This came after he had a monster rookie season with 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns! Thomas Jr. isn’t the only one that needs to take a hard look at himself. Travis Hunter was the second overall pick last season and he only managed to record 298 yards and 1 touchdown! With that enunciated, it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise if the Jags wanted to bring in a more established WR.

AJ Brown

It seems likely that the Pro Bowl WR AJ Brown will be traded. The Jags could get over the hump with Brown on offense. He only has one season below 1000k yards and it was 869 yards. Brown may even be in disbelief that he had 1k yards last season, despite having DeVonta Smith at WR and a somewhat dual threat QB in Jalen Hurts. There have been reports of the Patriots making a play for him, but that hasn’t come to fruition yet.

Stefon Diggs

Stefon Diggs should be looking at joining a Top-10 QB, if he doesn’t reunite with 2026 runner up for MVP, Drake Maye. T-Lawrence and Diggs could be a Top-5 QB-WR duo. It’s been reported that the Jags “checked in” on Diggs’s services a time ago. He recorded 85 catches and 1,019 yards in 2025.

OBJ

Let’s not pretend to see that OBJ didn’t “go off” in the flag championship. He made circus-like catches from TB12. He doesn’t even need “two hands”. OBJ can also operate well from the slot and outside. If he didn’t tear his ACL in the Super Bowl, I believed he would have been MVP of the game. He is wildly popular, but he still appears to have the talent to back it up. I don’t believe this is a situation similar to Michael Thomas, who has suffered key injuries in the past.

Marvin Mims

The Broncos reeled in the speed demon Jaylen Waddle. This could spell the end for Marvin Mims in Denver. Waddle should be a Top-10 wideout with Sean Payton calling the shots and Bo Nix unleashing the football. Meanwhile, Mims underperformed with 322 yards and 1 touchdown last season. He is too talented to play like a WR4 on a team. He should be a WR3 at the very least.

JuJu Smith-Schuster

JuJu may not be a Pro Bowler anymore, but he can be a sure-handed WR3 on the Jags. He had 345 yards last season and 933 yards in 2022. He has had some injury issues, however. He is 29, so I don’t believe he’s completelty falling apart. I don’t imagine that he will seek to have a minimal role in KC, so he should go somewhere where he can get 80 plus targets.

Zay Jones

Zay Jones isn’t a Pro Bowl WR, but I also refuse to believe he’s “washed up”. I still believe the WR that had 823 yards and five touchdowns in 2022 is still somewhere in him. He can shine on the outside and win 50/50 balls in the endzone. He is 30 years old, so I believe he still has some gas left in the tank.

It won’t be an easy fix for the Jags to improve their WR group. Personally, I’d like to see them hit the reset button and trade away Thomas Jr. and then make Hunter a permanent CB. They could trade for an explosive WR or target one in free agency. Then, I’d like to see them draft a WR in round one of the 2026 NFL Draft.
