What should the Steelers do at QB?

Will Mason Rudolph be the Steelers QB?

By: Jake Rajala

The Green Bay Packers have quite the quarterback drama. It’s unclear if Aaron Rodgers will return for another season. After all, he is 42 years old! Well, the Steelers owner Art Rooney expects a decision from A-Rod before the draft, which is in late April.

If Rodgers doesn’t return to the Steelers, a question remains: Should the Steelers ride with Mason Rudolph? He is the current Steelers QB. They also have Will Howard, who missed a large portion last season due to a broken hand. He is far from being a quality starter for 17 games right now.

I believe the 2023 season is still in Rudolph. In that season, he unleashed a 3-0 record. He also threw three touchdowns to 0 interceptions in that same season.

I’d love to see the Steelers bring in another veteran QB to compete with the Steelers. If a “slightly above average” QB can lead the Steelers to the promised land last season, another “modest’ veteran can do it this season. They could trade for a QB, so they don’t have to settle with a QB that’s left over from the early free agent period. Jacoby Brissett is one that comes to mind. Not only is he my fantasy QB, but he also has played quite well.

He may have even out-performed Justin Herbert this past season (as shown below).

Jacoby is also 32 years old, so he should have 5-7 more seasons left in him. The Steelers offense may even be more explosive than the one he was stuck with last season. The Steelers didn’t have Michael Pittman Jr. last season.

Jimmy G could also be a starter for the Steelers. He has played playoff football before, even if he has missed wide open targets down the field. The downside is that he is injury-prone.

If Rodgers does return to the Steelers, let’s not forget one critical thing. A-Rod played under Mike McCarthy in Green Bay. They will both go down as Packers Hall of Famers and even be in the “Ring of Honor”.

If Rodgers doesn’t return, they can’t get a QB that Mike played with in the past. Obviously, the Steelers can’t get Dak Prescott or Jordan Love, due to their age. They have a lot of potential.

I don’t believe this draft class of QBs is deep. There isn’t a QB like Tyler Shough or Shedeur Sanders sitting there after round one.
