5 QBs that could replace Anthony Richardson

Who could replace Anthony Richardson?

By: Jake Rajala

It would be quite surprising if the Indianapolis Colts didn’t trade the former first round pick Anthony Richardson. He hasn’t stayed consistent or healthy. So, if they ship him away, they need to find a replacement for him. Hence, I’m going to lay out five QBs that could replace him.

Spencer Rattler

The Saints future QB is most certainly the 2025 second round pick Tyler Shough. He shined with little ammunition (outside of Chris Olave) in the back-end of last season. Zach Wilson was also recently brought into the building. This all leaves Spencer Rattler expendable. Rattler still has freakish arm talent. He reminds me of a poor man’s version of Dan Marino. Some say he reminds them of Jay Cutler, too. Rattler can move out of the pocket well, just as Richardson can do.

Derek Carr

The Raiders legend, Derek Carr, doesn’t appear to be coming out of retirement. If he does want to come back, it will not be on the same team with Dennis Allen. If he does want to return, he will want a fine situation. Carr should be pleased with Jonathan Taylor, Michael Pittman Jr, Alec Pierce, and Josh Downs. Carr is 35 years old, so he has a few years left.

Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson has bounced around over the past few seasons. Perhaps he can find a home until he retires with Indy. He is similar to Rattler, but he has more experience, and a better deep throw. His deep throw reminds me of Michael Vick. Wilson may expect to get a chance to start in Indy, as the expected starter “Daniel Jones” has failed to be consistent on or off the field thus far.

J.J. McCarthy

Did J.J. McCarthy prove himself last season? Absolutely not. However, he has tools to be successful. He could be a fine project QB for a few more seasons. He may then be more potent than Danny Dimes in the future. The Vikings also have Kyler Murray, so they may be more open to dealing McCarthy.

Jimmy G

I expect Jimmy G to play somewhere in 2026. He may want to return to the days of being a starter. He could compete against Jones for the keys to the Colts QB1 spot. He did have a wonderful QB2 chair in Los Angeles, where he could sit and learn behind the 2025 MVP Matthew Stafford.

Honorable Mention:

Dillon Gabriel

I don’t love any QB in the Browns facility. However, Dillon Gabriel is likely the odd man out. Shedeur Sanders has potent accuracy and they are also heavily tied in with Deshaun Watson. Gabriel still has arm talent, which is why he was drafted in the third round!
