5 young QB trade targets for the Steelers around the draft

Best QB trade targets for the Steelers

By: Jake Rajala

The Pittsburgh Steelers can’t solely rely on Aaron Rodgers. Even if he does come back, he is 42 years old and it’s not clear how he will hold up. We’ve seen Brett Favre and Peyton Manning really struggle on their last legs. If he does come back, he will certainly be playing his last season. With that said, I’m going to lay out “young” QB trade targets for the Steelers.

Spencer Rattler

Spencer Rattler’s arm strength should bring back memories of Big Ben. Rattler can throw a wicked deep throw. He is still 25 years old, so he’s still adapting to the speed of the game. He played with Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed early last season. I wouldn’t say Shaheed is a Top-20 WR. With the Steelers, Rattler would get not only Metcalf, but Michael Pittman, as well.

Mac Jones

It won’t be easy for the Steelers to acquire Mac Jones. After all, he proved to be the most productive QB2 last season. The Steelers could use draft picks or get creative and flip T.J. Watt to the 49ers for him. It may sound blasphemous to Steelers nation for saying that Nonetheless, Jones is someone that can shine for more than a decade!

J.J. McCarthy

I don’t have a lot of faith in J.J. McCarthy turning it around in the Twin Cities. He shouldn’t be too harsh on himself. Sam Darnold left Minnesota and then won a Super Bowl with a different team. I want to see the former Michigan Wolverine in a new situation, such as Pittsburgh. McCarthy can shine with the play-action game and in the quick passing game to Metcalf and Pittman and letting them go to work.

Bryce Young

I’d say Bryce Young is the ultimate wild-card. If he takes a step back this season, I can’t imagine he is given a contract of a life time. Young has proven to be efficient, but I’d like to see him be a the best QB in his division. Baker Mayfield and Tyler Shough are also in his division.

Justin Fields

It may seem puzzling or humorous that I’m saying Fields could be an answer for the Steelers. Well, he has familiarity with the Steelers and he still has a lot of upside. This is why one of the best offensive minds in Andy Reid scooped him up. He also went 4-2 with the Steelers.
