Potential trade destinations for Chris Jones
By: Jake Rajala
Chris Jones hasn’t lived up to his athletic ability. He reminds me a lot of Alexander Ovechkin (an NHL hockey player). They are both highly gifted, but their effort is in question. Chris Jones has lost contain or has “jogged” to the QB. This can’t make Chiefs fans happy. Plus, he is 31 years old. I can’t imagine he will play into his late 30s. So, I’m going to lay out potential trade destinations for him.
Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins were once an AFC squad that would put up fireworks with Tyreek Hill at WR and Mike McDaniel calling the plays. With Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle gone, they need to get down and dirty. The new Dolphins DC is Sean Duggan and he’s 32 years old. Hence, he needs more veteran leadership to help translate his message.
Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals were 32nd in rushing YPG allowed last season. They also moved on from Trey Hendrickson this past offseason. I love that they brought in Dexter Lawrence. He had a career high nine sacks in 2024. They need to build up their defensive line so they can limit the likes of divisional foe Derrick Henry, or Chiefs RB (K9). We’ve seen the Cowboys bring in Kenny Clark AND Quinnen Williams. So, there is nothing wrong with having two potent DTs.
Green Bay Packers
Jones and Micah Parsons would be the most ferocious DT-DE combination in the league. There are also signs of Parsons not being completely ready for Week 1. Hence, they could use more pass rusher help early on. It wasn’t long ago that the Pack were the number one seed and absolute bullies.
Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns arguably have the best pass rush in the league. Of course, they have the reigning DPOY Myles Garrett. Mason Graham is also quite gifted. I’d love to see the Browns even add more talent. We witnessed the Rams bring Von Miller to join Aaron Donald a few years ago. This would be a similar scenario.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints have Chase Young, Carl Granderson, and they just added Christen Miller. I’d love to see them upgrade their DL with a veteran. Cam Jordan may not return, so it would be wise to add a more seasoned face. The Saints were also 19th in rushing YPG allowed last season.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Vita Vea and Jones would create the best run defense in the league. Vea had an admirable grade of 72.8 last season. He also had 51 pressures, which was seventh among DTs. The Bucs were fifth in rushing YPG allowed. I’d like to see them be the very best with Jones.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The IDL Cam Heyward is 37 years old, so he won’t be around forever. The Steelers still have T.J. Watt, who is 31 years old. The Wisconsin native has made the Pro Bowl in every season, except his rookie year. He won DPOY once and he took second in DPOY another season.
