Where could Michael Penix play next?

Michael Penix and Tua Tagovailoa will duke it out for the keys to the Atlanta Falcons offense. If Tua wins the job for the starting role, it would make sense for the Falcons to ship away Penix, especially if they could get an early pick for him. So, I’m going to lay out the best trade destinations for him.
New York Jets
We all know it was full circle for Geno Smith returning to the Jets. Even if Geno Smith is announced as the starting QB in 2026, he is most certainly an old QB (as he’s 35). Furthermore, he threw 17 interceptions last season and 15 in the season prior. They could develop Penix over a couple of seasons and prepare him to replace Geno.
Cleveland Browns
I’m not sold on Shedeur Sanders being the long-term QB. Sanders threw more interceptions than touchdowns a season ago. He also had a PFF grade of 44.1, which was 42nd among 43 QBs! He has some potential, especially out of the pocket. However, he still has a lot of room to grow.
Minnesota Vikings
It wouldn’t be the worst thing possible to bring in another QB for competition. Kyler Murray hasn’t been a successful QB in the prior few years. Obviously we J.J. McCarthy was one of the worst QBs last season. Penix can nicely unleash accurate, deep balls to Justin Jefferson.
Arizona Cardinals
I love Jacoby Brissett, who is on my fantasy team. However, he went 1-11 last season. He hasn’t been anywhere near clutch. He is given the nod to start right now, but he could benefit from another QB (besides the journey man Minshew Mania and the rookie Carson Beck) joining the QB room.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers have witnessed a return from Aaron Rodgers in 2026. Well, I don’t expect him to play beyond next season. They need to have an answer at QB for post A-Rod. Mason Rudolph has had flashes of excellence. However, he hasn’t played at a high level consistently.
New York Giants
The GMEN need a backup to replace the backup QB Russell Wilson. Even the former Saints “starting” QB Jameis Winston isn’t the greatest backup in the world. It’s Jaxson Dart’s job to lose, even if he missed a few games last season. I’d love to see more structure for them.
Houston Texans
CJ Stroud whiffed in the playoffs. He unleashed four turnovers in his latest playoff contest. Stroud could use more competition at the QB spot. Stroud hasn’t exactly been a Pro Bowl-caliber QB. He has a career high of 23 touchdown passes. He could benefit from more competition, to say the least.
