2027 quarterback targets for the Pittsburgh Steelers

2027 quarterback prospects for the Steelers

By: Jake Rajala

There is no secret: Aaron Rodgers will retire after this upcoming season. He doesn’t need to meditate next offseason to come up with an answer. With that said, I’m going to take a deep dive into QB profiles that could help in 2027.

Mac Jones

It’s simple: Mac Jones is the best backup QB in the league right now. Jones registered a 5-3 record, threw 13 touchdowns to six interceptions last season. He is only 27 years old, so he has a millennia ahead of him. The Steelers may be tempted to cough up a first round pick for him next offseason.

Davis Mills

Davis Mills isn’t a dreamy QB target, but he has developed nicely. He went 3-0 last season. He threw five touchdowns and only one interception in the contest. He has come a long way since leading the league in interceptions (with 15). Let’s not forget that the Texans legend, Matt Schaub, threw 15 ints in his first full season.

Deshaun Watson

Deshaun Watson will likely be the odd man out in the Browns QB room in 2026 and beyond. I don’t love Shedeur Sanders, but he has tools to work with and age on his side. Watson went 1-6 in 2024. It has been reported that all three QBs have struggled in practice thus far. It’s easier to be more patient with the “young, struggling” QBs than the “old, struggling” QBs. Perhaps Watson just needs a fresh start.

Anthony Richardson

Anthony Richardson isn’t Aaron Rodgers, but he is a freak athlete. We’ve seen Taysom Hill get a lot of action in direct QB runs, QB sweeps, and even reps from the tail-back spot. Richardson is also a better thrower than Hill. If the Steelers can get really creative on offense with Anthony in the run game and with short passes, he could really break out.

Kirk Cousins

After Fernando Mendoza is one of the top finalists for OROY this upcoming season, they will be more open to moving on from Kirk Cousins. If A-Rod can play with the Steelers at 42 years old, it shouldn’t be that Captain Kirk can’t shine at 37 years old in Pittsburgh.

Jacoby Brissett

Jacoby Brissett is the best one win QB of all time. Yes, he went 1-11 a season ago. I’m a tad biased given he’s my fantasy QB. Brissett looked very accurate and calm under center. The downside of the former Patriots QB is that he’s 34 years old right now.

Marcus Mariota

We’ve witnessed Geno Smith turn around his career in the middle to late chapter of his career. Perhaps the former Oregon Duck, Marcus Mariota, could get a taste of his pixy dust. Mariota made the Commanders somewhat competitive last season. His legs were cooking. He had 297 rushing yards in eight contests.
