5 very early OROY candidates

Early OROY candidates

By: Jake Rajala

The NFL preseason is around two months away. We will get a taste of a lot of talent in preseason. In particular, we will witness a lot of magic from rookies. With that said, I’m going to talk about very early OROY candidates.

Jordyn Tyson

I believe that Jordyn Tyson is in the best situation, among all of the o-players in the Top-10. The WR picked ahead of Tyson (Carnell Tate) has a lot of upside, but I like Tyler Shough more than Cam Ward. Shough is Tyson’s QB, while Tate plays with Ward. Tyson ‘s NFL comparison is Terry McLaurin, who is arguably a Top-10 WR. The Saints wiz Kellen Moore also won a Super Bowl a couple of years ago and has proven to be a genius play-caller.

Kenyon Sadiq

Only one tight end has won OROY and that was Mike Ditka. I’m going to be bold and say that Kenyon will have a legit shot at winning it. Kenyon ran a 4.39 40 yard dash! Vernon Davis ran a 4.38 and he was a legend in the playoffs against the Saints. NFL.com states his comparison as Trey McBride. Trey was first team AP last season.

Jadarian Price

It’s hard to bet against the reigning Super Bowl Champions (Seattle Seahawks). The Hawks nicely picked Jadarian Price 32nd overall. He will be replacing K9, who joined the Chiefs. Sam Darnold and Jaxon Smith-Njigba will open up things for Price in the running game. It will be quite a balanced attack on offense.

Germie Bernard

Germie Bernard may not be an athletic freak or overly productive WR in college. Nonetheless, he does get to play with the future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers. Bernard should get favorable matchups with DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman hogging the attention from the defense. He also comes from a college powerhouse, Alabama.

Fernando Mendoza

Fernando may not be in a golden situation. However, he was still picked first overall for good reason. Fernando was compared to Joe Burrow by Lance Zierlein of NFL.com. We all remember the Chiefs DC (Steve Spagnuolo) calling Burrow the best QB after (Patrick Mahomes). He does have Klint Kubiak in his corner, who is arguably an elite play-caller.

Honorable Mention:

De’Zhaun Stribling

We all witnessed Alvin Kamara win OROY with Mark Ingram in the building. Perhaps De’Zhaun can win OROY with the veteran, Christian McCaffrey around. He ran a 4.36, which is quite impressive. He had the fifth highest athletic score. He was the 33rd overall pick, so he needs to shine right away.
