Patriots WR outlook after AJ Brown trade

Pats WR outlook right now

By: Jake Rajala

There is no secret that the Philadelphia Eagles traded AJ Brown for a first round pick from the New England Patriots. Brown is the new WR1 and replacement for Stefon Diggs.

Brown has been frustrated with the Eagles longer than Justin Jefferson has been with the Vikings. Brown recorded 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns a season ago. There has only been one season where he recorded less than 1k yards. He also only has had one season below seven touchdowns! PFF ranked him as the 13th best WR with a grade of 83 last season.

After Brown, the Pats WR room is still talented. Romeo Doubs is electric, to say the least. He had 724 yards and six TDs last season. He’s not meant to be a WR1, so I’m not worried about him not playing like a Pro Bowler. He had eight touchdowns with the Packers in his second season.

Kayshon Boutte’s future with the Pats is up in the air. According to NBC Sports, he is interested in a trade. I understand that he wants to be featured at this pivotal point in his career, and Brown is taking some of that attention away from him.

The Pats big 3 wideouts aren’t a glorified room of WRs. They aren’t exactly like the Rams or even the Saints trio of WRs. If they move on from Kayshon, I’d love to see a reunion with Diggs. Diggs understands the McDaniels system. Drake Maye and Diggs understand and trust one another, too.

The Giants inked a few WRs yesterday. Of course, it was OBJ, JuJu, and Berrios. The free agent WR pool is lighter after the Giants jumped in.

The Pats still have Hunter Henry at TE, as well. Henry recorded 768 yards and seven touchdowns last season. He is still 31, so he should have 2-3 more quality seasons left.

In the end, they still have Josh McDaniels, who has won many Super Bowls. He knows the intensity that is required to put on a dangerous offense day in and day out.
