49ers rumors: $9M veteran is on thin ice

$9M veteran on roster bubble

By: Jake Rajala

The San Francisco 49ers don’t have Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk is very likely on his way out. Nonetheless, they still have a lot of talent at their WR spot, with Mike Evans leading the way. This makes some decisions on which WRs to keep and which to ship out very challenging.

The case of Demarcus Robinson is fascinating. He is a $9 million man. He hasn’t exactly lived up to his pay-check. He had 276 yards and one touchdown last season (in 14 games). He didn’t exactly stand out. Ricky Pearsall notched 528 yards in nine games last season!

If Robinson exits, which team will pick him up?

Miami Dolphins

The Phins no longer have Tyreek Hill or Jaylen Waddle. They carry Malik Washington and Jalen Tolbert. They have one of the least productive WR rooms in the league. Robinson could be a WR3 in Miami at the very least. Furthermore, many veterans like to play in warm cities in their last days.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders don’t have the sexiest WR room. Tre Tucker is their WR1 and he’s not a bully. He had 696 yards and five TDs. Their WR2 is none other than Jalen Nailor. He had 444 yards and four TDs a season ago. Brock Bowers is an elite TE, but he’s not going to dazzle by himself. Robinson could step in and compete for a starting spot.

Washington Commanders

The Commanders don’t have a lot of talent after Terry McLaurin on their WR chart. Scary Terry isn’t Megatron. He can’t carry a offense. I’d love to see Robinson slot into their WR2 spot and push Luke McCaffrey into the WR3 role. Chig Oknkwo is an underrated TE, don’t get me wrong.

Demarcus Robinson still has some gas left in the tank, even if he is released. He can be a 500 yard WR in the right system. Hopefully, his efforts result in winning games, too.
