Teams with a short Super Bowl window
By: Jake Rajala
The NFL stands for “Not For Long”. This applies to everything about football, especially a pursuit for a Super Bowl. So, I’m going to lay out five teams with a short Super Bowl window.
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens workhorse Derrick Henry won’t be Goliath forever. He is 32 years old. He has already showcased fumble issues. King Henry still has a wicked stiff arm, but that won’t carry him until the end of time. The Ravens have an elite pass rusher in Trey Hendrickson. However, he is 31 years old, so he will likely play at a high level for no more than a few seasons.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers T.J. Watt is coming off his worst season (seven sacks and 10 TFLs). He isn’t getting any younger at 31 years old. Let’s not forget that Cam Heyward (37 years old) returned and will likely retire next offseason. Obviously, the most notable player on his last legs is none other than Aaron Rodgers. He will play his last season in 2026.
Philadelphia Eagles
The alpha of the Eagles is their RB Saquon Barkley. I believe the madden curse got to him, however. He only had three games over 1k rushing yards! We already saw AJ Brown get traded. That didn’t exactly help their Super Bowl chances. Their star tight end (Dallas Goedert) is also 31 years old.
Los Angeles Rams
I spoke about a QB in Pittsburgh that is playing his last season. Well, there is another QB in LA that is playing his last season in 2026 or 2027. Obviously, I’m talking about Matthew Stafford. Stafford has another pal that is retiring soon. It is none other than Davante Adams, who is 33 years old. Ty Simpson could be a successful heir to Matthew Stafford, but that doesn’t mean he will be an MVP winner in the near future.
San Francisco 49ers
Similar to Barkley and Henry, Christian McCaffrey is 29+ years old. As well said, RBs really decline around the age of 30. CMAC has also taken a beating worse than most RBs. Besides CMAC, the 49ers have Mike Evans (who is 32 years old) and George Kittle (who is 32). At least, their QB Brock Purdy is young.
These teams have a lot of talent, but they don’t exactly have the fountain of youth on their side. I believe many of these teams with a short Super Bowl window are near washed up, especially at the QB position.
