Worst team in each division
By” Jake Rajala
It’s always exciting to speculate which teams will finish first in each NFL division. Well, it’s also fascinating to predict who the bottom of the barrel squad is in each division.
NFC South: Atlanta Falcons
The former first overall pick Bryce Young and former first overall pick Baker Mayfield have been mostly consistent over the past couple of seasons. Baker just needs a proper contract extension. Tua Tagovailoa or Michael Penix are not exactly a comfortable choice to start at QB. The Falcons also ranked in third among four teams in the NFC South in PPG allowed.
NFC West: Arizona Cardinals
Jacoby Brissett may be my fantasy QB, but he still went 1-11 last season. The Cardinals moved on from Kyler Murray. The other three NFC West teams could honestly win the Super Bowl. The Seahawks are coming off a Lombardi victory and the Rams had the reigning MVP Matthew Stafford. The 49ers also had Brock Purdy, who went 7-2.
NFC North: Minnesota Vikings
J.J. McCarthy can’t shine in a system that made Kirk Cousins look like a Pro Bowler at times. Aaron Jones is also on his last legs. It’s hard to ask a WR (Justin Jefferson) to carry the offense. The Vikings don’t have a defense like the Purple Eaters or even a recent Mike Zimmer run defense.
NFC East: New York Giants
The entire offense seemed to be injured last season. It won’t be easy for their QB-RB-WR to jump in and shine. They will have to shake some rust off. Their defense has a talented front seven, but they are still young. They rank 26th in PPG allowed.
AFC North: Cleveland Browns
I don’t love the QB situation in Cleveland. Deshaun Watson has looked like one of the biggest busts in free agency at QB in NFL history. Furthermore, the Browns no longer have the reigning DPOY Myles Garrett. Their WR room is shaky, too. They could be a quality team in 2–3 more seasons.
AFC East: New York Jets
The Jets are rolling out the red carpet for Geno Smith. Is this wise? Absolutely not. The Jets are taking a step back with their QB spot than last year, which may seem hard to believe. Of course, we all heard that the Jets traded away Sauce and Quinnen Williams. I believe Anthony Glenn won’t survive the season.
AFC West: Las Vegas Raiders
I am a huge fan of Klint Kubiak, as a Saints fan. I don’t quite believe he’s going to win COTY and lead his team to the playoffs. Fernanodo Mendoza is a rookie, so there will be growing pains. They also are young at RB with Ashton Jeanty. I hope they keep Maxx Crosby.
AFC South: Tennessee Titans
Cam Ward wasn’t the best or second best rookie QB last season. They are putting a lot of hope in rookie WR Carnell Tate. The Titans were also 28th in PPG allowed last season. They need to make a blockbuster trade if they want to thrive in an underrated AFC South division.
