Potential replacements for Bryan Bresee

Replacements for Bryan Bresee after his injury

By: Jake Rajala

Terrible news has already struck the New Orleans Saints. Their former first round pick and elusive interior defensive lineman has suffered a torn ACL and he will be out for the season. With that said, the Saints quickly need to replace him before Week 1. So, I’m going to lay out potential replacement options for him.

Vita Vea

It may be meant to be. The behemoth Vea wants a trade out of Tampa. He could join a Saints DL that has Chase Young, Cameron Jordan, and Carl Granderson. The biggest reason that Vea wouldn’t join the Saints is that they are in the same division.

Mason Graham

Mason Graham didn’t look like a Top-10 pick in his rookie season. I’d love to see a change in scenery for him. He only had 0.5 sack, several tackles for loss, and four QB hits. He needs to be in a scheme where he can get help from other prominent DL figures.

Deforest Buckner

Deforest Buckner is a freak of nature. He stands at 6’7 and weighs 295 pounds. He shines against the run and against the pass. In 10 games last season, he recorded 4 sacks, nine tackles for loss, and 30 solo tackles. He had a PFF grade of 74. This is admirable given his limited season.

Jarran Reed

Reed is a flat out winner. He won the Super Bowl with the Hawks last season. He isn’t a Pro Bowler, but he can eat up double teams and help his linebackers get home. He may get beat out by the younger guys, so he would be perfect to scoop up by the Saints.

Aaron Donald

If Aaron Donald wants to return, it doesn’t have to be with the Rams. He may want to join a different ascending team with a very talented DL. Cam Jordan is 36 years old. Donald is younger than him! Perhaps Donald will join the Saints if they are off to a hot start.
