Why the Broncos could win the Super Bowl
By: Jake Rajala
The Denver Broncos came all too close to reaching the Super Bowl last season. They beat the Buffalo Bills, but it came with a cost. Bo Nix suffered a broken ankle in the process. They went against the Patriots empty-handed, to say the least. It was impressive that the Broncos put up a serious fight and merely lost by three points (as they lost 10-7).
With that said, I believe they will bounce back. I’m even going to unleash key reasons the Broncos could win the Super Bowl.
The Broncos made one of the most underrated WR moves by bringing in Jaylen Waddle last season. He recorded 910 yards and six touchdowns last season. He had 18.1 YPC in 2022, which was first in the league. With Sean Payton calling the plays, Waddle should be a Pro Bowler. Waddle is still 27 years old. The Broncos don’t need to bring in Taysom Hill with Waddle and Courtland Sutton at WR and Evan Engram at TE in the offense.
Their biggest strength isn’t their QB or Payton. It’s their defense. Patrick Surtain won DPOY in 2024. Their top pass rusher is Nik Bonitto, who had 14 sacks last season. He leads a defense that ranked first in sacks last season. Vance Joseph knows what buttons to click, to unlock their defense. Could he leave to be a head coach? Probably. Well, he loves the culture and success with the Broncos. He wants to win a Super Bowl with a team and this team is his best bet.
Will Lutz was shipped away from the Saints to the Broncos with Payton. He has quite the leg. His best FG% came in 2024, where he had a 91.2%. If the Broncos want to survive in one of the best NFL divisions (AFC West), they need to have a strong special teams. It starts and finishes with him.
