One of the Mount Rushmore defensive lineman, Aaron Donald, has come out of retirement to return to the Los Angeles Rams. Donald, also known as AD, was first-team All-Pro in his latest season (2023). He has made first team AP in eight seasons. His rookie season and 2021 (where he played in 11 games) were the only seasons that he didn’t make first team AP.
With that said, he is really looking to join the Rams for a couple of reasons. I suspect it is that Matthew Stafford is the Rams QB and he won MVP last season. The second reason is that Myles Garrett was sent to Los Angeles from Cleveland.
If Donald can come out fresh and stay healthy, I really believe that the Rams have the best DE-DT tandem in the NFL with Garrett and Donald. It won’t be easy for Donald to flip that switch back. He’s 35 years old. He’s nearly as old as Cameron Jordan (36) and Von Miller (36). I’m not saying he’s as old as Ndamukong Suh, however.
I have to imagine this outcome is an A+. They don’t have to cough up any draft picks or players for him. They had to get rid of compensation for Von Miller before. I’m not saying they don’t have to pay for Donald. Of course, they are signing him to a $20 million dollar figure, according to Clutch Points.
The Rams are in a better position to win the Super Bowl than they were in their prior Super Bowl-winning season. I’d like to see them keep their foot on the pedal and aspire to win another Super Bowl with Stafford-Sean McVay at the helm.
It’s crazy, but I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing J.J. Watt come out of retirement to join Donald and Garrett. Watt can be a third-down specialist if he prefers. He is 37 years old, so there may be some juice to squeeze out of him.
The Rams were dominant with Bobby Wagner. He is a free agent. In other words, he may not be opposed to joining the Rams, once again.
