Best landing spots for Josh Sweat
By: Jake Rajala
There has been countless rumors surrounding a potential trade with Josh Sweat. He’s a prolific pass rusher that sits on a team with low expectations. In other words, it makes sense for him to seek a trade. So, I’m going to lay out potential fits for Josh Sweat.
Cleveland Browns
The Browns haven’t exactly properly replaced Myles Garrett. They have Jared Verse at an end spot. He’s a stud, as he recorded 7.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. The other end spot spells trouble. Isaiah McGuire is the other DE and he’s not exactly a star. He had 2 sacks, six QB hits, and an forced fumble.
Cincinnati Bengals
Sure, the Bengals brought in Sexy Dexy. Well, he can’t play DE. After they traded away Trey Hendrickson, they have failed to replace him. Boye Mafe had a couple of sacks last season. He had a PFF grade of 69.2. So, he’s not a potent edge rusher. The other DE Myles Murphy can hold his ground right now, however.
Detroit Lions
The combination of Aidan Hutchinson and Josh Sweat would be lethal. Hutch is an All-Pro caliber DE if he can stay healthy. Across from Hutch, they have DJ Wonnum. He had one sack last season. Furthermore, he had a 54.5 PFF grade last season. Yes, he isn’t exactly a scary figure.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers were dead last in sacks last season. Yes, Nick Bosa was hurt. That’s not a complete excuse for a lack of a pass rush. I want to see Josh Sweat bringing fury on the other side of Bosa. It’s also wise to get Sweat because Bosa has had two season ending injuries.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles have Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Zack Baun, and Nolan Smith Jr. in their front seven. I’d love to see bring in a superior edge rusher alongside Smith Jr. The Eagles need to bring back the pass rush they had when they won a couple of Super Bowls.
Honorable Mention:
Dallas Cowboys
I love Rashan Gary and Quinnen Williams on the Boys DL. I want to see them take it up a notch. The Boys defense really hurt last season. Matter of fact, the Boys defense ranked 32nd in PPG allowed. Jadeveon Clowney was a stud for the Boys last season. They need to replace that production at minimum.
