Potential replacements for Matt LaFleur

Replacement options for Matt LaFleur

By: Jake Rajala

There is no secret: the Green Bay Packers have really struggled early this season and late last season. They don’t have Micah Parsons, but that’s not an excuse to be an abomination. It would be an understatement to say Matt LaFleur is on the hot seat. With that said, I’m going to lay out potential replacements for LaFleur.

Brian Flores

The Packers know first-hand how wise the Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator, Brian Flores, is. They have allowed 12.5 PPG allowed in 2026 thus far. They were fourth in PPG allowed last season! Furthermore, they were fifth in sacks last season. The Vikings managed to have a winning record last season with J.J. McCarthy. That was because of their defense.

kliff Kingsbury

I would llike to see Kliff Kingsbury get another shot as an HC. If Josh McDaniel got another opportunity, Kingsbury sure deserves one. He is a QB whisperer. He is the current assistant coach for Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams. He’s at the perfect place right now. He is gaining experience under the most creative head coach right now.

Klay Kubiak

The Kubiaks are geniuses. Gary Kubiak had many big moments as an HC. His son Klint Kubiak just won a Super Bowl last season as an OC with the Seattle Seahawks. As a Saints fan, I do wish he stayed in the Big Easy. Klay Kubiak is an OC with the San Francisco 49ers. He is the second Kubiak to be an OC in the NFC West. Klay didn’t want to be an HC last off-season. He has gained more experience in 2026, so he may want to be an HC in 2027.

Sean McDermott

Sean McDermott could lead a team to the Super Bowl. I don’t love that the Bills let him go. Josh Allen won an MVP under him. They also beat teams like the Chiefs and Patriots under him. Nonetheless, he will seek to find the right fit moving forward.

Rex Ryan

Rex Ryan is one of the best available head coaches on the market. He can really fire up a team and play good defense. It would be an understatement to say the Packers need more quality defense and motivation. Ryan isn’t Buddy Ryan, but he is a wise figure. Ryan could attract a bright offensive coordinator, as well.

Honorable Mention:

Bill Belichick

I can’t imagine that BB returns to the NFL in the middle of the season, but he could join the Pack after the season. He could build a hybrid defense around Micah Parsons and Luke Van Ness. BB could attrack a shiny QB. After all, who wouldn’t want to play under him?
