Best replacements for Bo Nix
By: Jake Rajala
There is no secret: Bo Nix has played like a bad quarterback this season. He has a PFF grade of 49.2, which is 32nd out of 34 quarterbacks. It doesn’t matter if the genius Sean Payton is calling plays. Nix still struggles. With that said, It wouldn’t be a surprise if they move on from Nix. So, I’m going to lay out potential replacements for him.
Mac Jones
Brock Purdy is playing like an MVP candidate. In other words, Mac Jones won’t steal his job. The former Patriots QB (Jones) played quite electric last season. He went 5-3, threw 13 touchdowns to six interceptions, and unleashed 2,151 passing yards. Jones is also 28 years old. He has a lot of untapped potential.
Teddy Bridgewater
It should be known that Teddy Bridgewater once played under Payton. Matter of fact, Teddy B went 5-0 as a replacement for Drew Brees. Bridgewater may be retired, but that didn’t stop him from coming back before. He is 33 years old, so he has 2-3 seasons left in him.
Drew Brees
Drew Brees is the second retired QB on this list. Brees reached out to the Broncos last season to inquire about playing for them. A retired player can come back to the league. Brees may lack arm strength right now, but he can read defenses at a high level. He also can throw short passes very well.
Anthony Richardson
Payton would really light up defenses with Anthony Richardson. He made magic happen with Taysom Hill. Taysom and Anthony are similar athletes. Payton also nicely used Jameis Winston’s arm strength. Well, Anthony has top-notch arm strength! Payton also won’t force Anthony to drop back and throw the ball 40 times to win a game.
Justin Herbert
Justin Herbert is another QB that’s struggling and playing on a downward spiraling squad. Perhaps the Broncos could throw in a early draft pick with Nix to acquire Herbert. Jim Harbaugh needs to show the Chargers organization that there’s potential on the team. Nix is a bit similar to Colin Kaepernick, as they both can make plays with their legs.
