Potential replacements for Jalen Hurts
By: Jake Rajala
It’s sadly official: Jalen Hurts will miss the rest of the season, due to blood clots in his lungs. This doesn’t mean the season is over for Eagles fans. With that said, I’m going to lay out potential replacements for Jalen Hurts moving forward.
Jameis Winston
I really believe that J.J. McCarthy will be the Giants QB moving forward. This doesn’t mean that Jameis Winston is a dud. He had a 2-1-1 record this season. He has impressive arm strength. When he leaves the pocket, he is sharp at finding open wide receivers. He doesn’t need to do everything by himself in Philly.
Shedeur Sanders
It’s a shame that a gifted QB like Shedeur Sanders is a QB2. He can make magic happen from the QB spot. He reminds me a lot of Archie Manning. Sanders is on the same par as Deshaun Watson. Watson is a tad better at reading defenses. Of course, Watson has been around longer than Shedeur.
Marcus Mariota
I believe Marcus Mariota is the closest thing to Hurts. Mariota has a lot of rushing ability in him. After all, he can run a 4.52 40 yard dash. He also has fine ability to make accurate throws on the run. He has struggled to win in recent memory, due to his roster. He will have a lot more help in Philly than Washington.
Spencer Rattler
Spencer Rattler has freak arm talent. This is why the Saints drafted him. Tyler Shough is one of the best young signal-callers. Hence, Rattler won’t surpass Shough anytime soon. Rattler is still developing at 26 years old. Matter of fact, he’s a year younger than Shough. Rattler needs weapons and a defense to be competitive. He can find those in Philadelphia.
Matthew Stafford
This one would be quite bold. I believe the Rams could trade Matthew Stafford and move forward with Ty Simpson. After all, the Rams are 2-4 and Stafford is 38 years old. Stafford is third in interceptions (6) right now. We witnessed J.J. McCarthy step in for Jameis Winston yesterday and throw 243 yards. Perhaps Ty has something up his sleeve.
Honorable Mention:
Bo Nix
It’s quite simple: Bo Nix needs a fresh start. He is the second to last QB in PFF rankings. We’ve seen Sean Payton take over play-calling and Nix still looked average at best. Nix can make plays with his legs, similar to Hurts. Nix almost went to the Super Bowl last season. He still has some giftedness in him.
