Reflecting on the 49ers-Commanders showdown
By: Jake Rajala
The San Francisco 49ers were nearly another team in Week 6 to blow a lead. They were leading the Washington Commanders by a score of 23-3 and the Commanders scored two touchdowns to put it to a one touchdown lead. There were some penalties on each side, but it wasn’t an excuse to win or lose. With that said, I’m going to lay out five things we learned from the game.
Mike Evans
Mike Evans is arguably a Top-5 player on the San Francisco 49ers squad. I even believe he is a future Hall of Famer. He can go up in the air and high-point footballs. He can also beat corners with quickness and strength. Well, bad news has happened. Evans hurt his Achilles. He is expected to miss time. Hopefully, it isn’t more than a few weeks.
Jayden Daniels
I really believe Jayden Daniels did a fine job against the 49ers. He threw a pair of touchdowns and had a passer rating of 110.4. Daniels threw a catchable ball to Treylon Burks on 4th down. I would have liked to see Jayden use his legs more. He played well, given that Terry McLaurin injured his leg and didn’t return. Sadly, he tore his patellar tendon and will miss the rest of the season.
The world of CMAC
Christian McCaffrey was quite exceptional in the showdown. He had two rushing touchdowns and nine grabs for 53 yards. He can’t be replaced, to put it simply. There aren’t many versatile ball-carriers like him in this league. Alvin Kamara is another back that comes to mind. CMAC may be stronger, however.
Fred Warner
Fred Warner was given the green light to light up opposing skill players. He didn’t get called for hitting players in the head or neck area, so he just kept hitting up high against the other team. Warner is one of the best inside linebackers in the game. If he has a couple of more All-Pro seasons, he should be in contention for the Hall of Fame.
Luke McCaffrey likes to gamble
Luke McCaffrey played it way too close with a punt that landed right in front of him. It nearly hit his leg. I don’t understand why he didn’t attempt to catch it or attempt to get the heck out of the area. Luke McCaffrey’s brother may not mind if he fumbles the ball.
