Granderson: one of the Saints x-factors
By: Jake Rajala
Chase Young has showed that he can’t be relied on. He is playing like the best player on the Saints defense and arguably the top overall Saints player. We all know that Chase Young is second in sacks this season (with seven sacks). PFF shows he has 28 pressures, too. I’d like to see that number bump up. Nonetheless, he deserves the respect after getting off to a slow start in his career. It’s less talked about how productive Carl Granderson is. He has recorded 5.5 sacks, seven QB hits, and five tackles for loss.
These aren’t quite career high performances quite yet. In 2023, he notched 8.5 sacks, 20 QB hits, and 14 tackles for loss. Those were all season-best outcomes. Hopefully, Granderson can surpass those marks.
With that said, it’s worth noting that Granderson is one of the few x-factors on the squad. I believe Devaughn Vele is one of the main x-factors on offense. I believe Granderson is that on defense.
It’s also worth noting that Granderson rotates in the game often. Young and Jordan also get a lot of playing time. I would like to see a quality DE4 to be honest.
Granderson has a lot of game left in his career. The former UDFA signed a four year deal worth $52 million over four years. Granderson is only 29 years old. He has a few modest seasons left in the tank. After all, if Jordan can play until the age of 36, then Granderson can play a few more seasons at least.
