Best fits for Jon Gruden

Will Jon Gruden coach again?

By: Jake Rajala

Jon Gruden was once regarded as one of the top coaches in the NFL. The Raiders handed him a ten year contract not too long ago. Of course, his racist, homophobic emails axed him from the league.

Since his departure from the league, Gruden has kept busy. The New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs have invited him to give advice and wisdom. With that said, time could heal his wounds and he may be able to take the next step by returning as a head coach. The question is: what are the best fits for Jon Gruden?

New Orleans Saints

The Saints have been desperate in recent years. They heavily pursued Deshaun Watson, despite his off-field issues. The Saints have lacked consistency on offense since Sean Payton left. Luckily, Gruden is available, and he has chemistry with Derek Carr!

New York Giants

Brian Daboll is one the biggest hot seat in the league. The Giants ranked 31st in ponts scored last season and 30th in points in the season prior. The Giants have also been linked to acquiring Carr. Perhaps they can get Carr and Gruden. The Giants could also get Travis Hunter to help Malik Nabers.

Las Vegas Raiders

I don’t foresee Pete Carroll, who is the oldest head coach in the league, staying in Las Vegas too long. If the Raiders fall flat this upcoming season, I wouldn’t be surprised if Carroll left. It’s also fair to note that Vegas has the most fans loyal to Gruden, too. It would be the third time Gruden’s coached the Raiders.

Cleveland Browns

Kevin Stefanski was once seen as one of the best coaches in the league, as he’s a numerous COTY winner. Nonetheless, nobody is safe. Even Bill Belichick was kicked out of New England. The Browns went 3-14 last season and they’ve had three losing seasons in five years. They are really in a hole with Watson.

Atlanta Falcons

Raheem Morris isn’t exactly a QB whisperer. I’d love to see the new QB in Michael Penix get an offensive mind HC. The Falcons couldn’t save Kirk Cousins. Perhaps they can save Penix. Gruden could play with fancy toys, such as Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts in a weak division.

Miami Dolphins

The young buck in Miami, Mike McDaniel, has struggled to evolve. They went from 11-6 in 2023 to 8-9 this past season. To make matters worse, McDaniel is 3-15 against winning coaches! Gruden is an old-school face that might be able to utilize the likes of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle better than the former ivy league figure in Mike.

Dallas Cowboys

Jerry has been around for a long time. Gruden has been around for a long time. They are certainly familiar with one another. I’d love to see Gruden considered for a job where he would have an elite QB and outstanding group of weapons. Per CBS Sports, Gruden would be a good fit for the Boys.
