Garrett can win DPOY again
By: Jake Rajala
Myles Garrett has been one of the top defenders in the league since he was drafted first overall in 2017. He has won Defensive Player of The Year and he’s been named First-Team All-Pro four times! With that said, I’m going to untwine why he can win DPOY again.
- Competition
The tackles he will face in the AFC North spew out mediocrity.
The Pittsburgh Steelers LT Broderick Jones had a PFF grade of 58.5 a season ago. His pass blocking grade was worse – as it was 54.6. He had 10 penalties and 10 sacks given up. The Browns LT was quite deficient, too. Orlando Brown Jr had a poor PFF grade of 58.2 -which makes him the 92nd best tackle. The once reliable Ravens LT Ronnie Stanley had a wretched PFF grade of 71 – which pegs him as the 39th best tackle. Garrett had 5 sacks in six games against his AFC North foes last season.
- Other pass rushers
Garrett, T.J. Watt, Khalil Mack, and Aaron Donald would compete for DPOY honors all the time. Well, Donald is retired. Mack is coming off his lowest sack total and tackles for loss in a full-season since his rookie season! T.J. Watt is also coming off his worst sack total in 17 games since his rookie season! Although, Trey Hendrickson and Micah Parsons have been chasing Garrett as the best pass rusher and DE in the league.
- Money
“Show Me The Money!’
Garrett signed a contract extension that pays him $40 million per season. He is set to make $200 million by the end of 2030. He understands that he would be one of the biggest busts of all time he doesn’t pan out after the mega contract. Parsons is certainly taking note of the money Garrett hauled in.
