Best trade destinations for Sam Howell

Best destinations for Sam Howell

By: Jake Rajala

Sam Howell has been a hot trade target ahead of the draft. At 24 years old, Howell still has a plethora of potential. There could certainly be a team that bites and reels in the former fifth round pick. With that said, I’m going to untwine the best trade destinations for Howell.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints are seeking to trade up in the second round to acquire a young, somewhat gifted QB. They could bring in a young, talented QB in Howell, versus drafting early for a QB or breaking the bank for a QB. They still love Spencer Rattler, so they are a season away from swinging to the fences for a QB.

Cleveland Browns

Joe Flacco can be a competitive QB that can upset the Baltimore Ravens. However, he’s not a long-term answer at QB. I’d love to see the Browns groom Howell for a couple of years. Kevin Stefanski is a bit of a QB whisperer, too.

Minnesota Vikings

I’d love to see Minny trade for a quality QB2. Of course, the Vikings couldn’t afford to keep Sam Darnold. J.J. McCarthy is very talented, but there is still some mystery how he will play for a full season. It’s vital that the Vikings, who are a playoff contender, have a quality back-up at the most pivotal position.

Denver Broncos

Sean Payton once took Jameis Winston under his wing for a “Harvard education”. Perhaps Payton can develop Howell and then make him prime trade bait. The Broncos could benefit from QB competition between Jarrett Stidham and Howell.

Philadelphia Eagles

The reigning Super Bowl Champions could benefit from more talent at their QB2 spot. The current Eagles QB2 is Tanner McKee hasn’t played a lot in the league. Howell has more arm strength than Tanner to utilize the deep speed of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.

Honorable Mention:

New York Jets

We have yet to see Justin Fields make a lot of noise for an entire season. Howell may be able to pry away the reigns of the team at some point in 2024. Howell is also a couple of years younger than Fields.
