When could Drew Lock start?
By: Jake Rajala
The former Missouri quarterback Drew Lock was once seen as a future Pro Bowler after leading the Denver Broncos to a 4-1 record in his rookie season. In the process, he threw several touchdowns to three interceptions.
It appeared he would take the next step even in his sophomore year. Well, he had quite the sophomore slump. He threw a league high 15 interceptions and led his team to a 4-9 record. He wasn’t quite able to get a second chance until the 2024 season. Well, it’s safe to say he blew it. He went 1-4 and threw six touchdowns to five interceptions.
So the question is: can Drew Lock start again?
Lock will earn a shot as a QB2. Mark my words. I don’t believe that he will compete for a starting gig, but he should be a back-up again. He is still 28 years old, so he can improve and keep a game competitive if he has the right weapons. I will give him somewhat of a pass after he had to play with a lackluster Giants offense last season.
We’ve witnessed Geno Smith and Sam Darnold shine after being putrid QBs for many seasons. Lock still has the measurables and arm talent. He also had one of the biggest upsets last season, where he beat the Philadelphia Eagles. If he can’t shine with the Seattle Seahawks (for his second time there) in Klint Kubiak’s creative scheme, I would like to see him get another shake at it for a team like San Francisco, the Los Angeles Rams, or the Denver Broncos.
