5 veteran QB options for the Saints

New QB options for the Saints

By: Jake Rajala

The heartbreaking news is out: Derek Carr has officially retired. After 11 prolific seasons, he has hung up his cleats. Carr was going to be the starting quarterback if he was healthy. Clearly, that won’t be the case. I believe that the starting QB in 2025 will be between Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough. Nonetheless, I believe they should bring in a veteran QB to help a young QB (and replace Jake Haener). So, I’m going to untwine five veteran QB options for the Saints.

Teddy Bridgewater

New Orleans is a special place in the heart of Teddy Bridgewater. After all, he went 5-0 as a starter for the Saints in 2019. Overall, he also has a career record of 33-32. He’s certainly capable of leading a team to the playoffs. He is also 32 years old, so he has five seasons left in him.

He may decide to coach again.

Cooper Rush

Cooper Rush is most certainly one of the best QB2s in the league. He threw 12 touchdowns to 5 interceptions last season. Furthermore, he has a 9-5 career record! Rush has experience with Kellen Moore’s scheme, as well. He will also have more firepower in a Saints offense than what he had in the Boys offense.

Jameis Winston

Jameis Winston has been a rumored candidate to be traded. It doesn’t help Winston’s case that the Giants have Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart. Of course, Winston is also a fan favorite in the Big Easy. It appeared that Winston would win CPOY after having the Saints at an 5-2 record. Well, he sadly tore his ACL after the seven games.

Aaron Rodgers

It was unclear if A-Rod would be better than Carr. Well, it’s safe to say that he should be more productive than a second-year QB and rookie QB “in 2025”. Rodgers has quality weapons with Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, Alvin Kamara, and Brandin Cooks. It isn’t time to panic for the young Saints QB as they would have a chance to start after Rodgers retires, which will most likely be after this upcoming season.

Tanner McKee

Tanner McKee threw for a pair of touchdowns in each of his starts last season. He has a plethora of potential at 23 years old. Let’s not forget that he played in Philly’s offense last season under Moore. I believe he can be a starter in this league, regardless of him being drafted in the sixth round.
