Saquon Barkley vs Derrick Henry: who has the edge?

Saquon Barkley vs Derrick Henry

By: Jake Rajala

Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry are blatantly Top-3 running backs. They both possess gifted speed, strength, and consistency. Henry isn’t the best receiving back, but he makes up for it with his stiff arm. All jokes aside, I’m going to untwine which RB is better than the other.

Saquon Barkley

  • Seven seasons
  • 7,216 career rushing yards
  • 48 rushing touchdowns
  • 2,378 receiving yards
  • Offensive Rookie of The Year
  • Three time Pro Bowl selection
  • Offensive Player of The Year
  • Super Bowl winner

Now it’s time to untwine the resume of the Ravens RB who looks like a defensive end.

Derrick Henry

  • nine seasons
  • 11,423 career rushing yards
  • 106 rushing touchdowns
  • 1,651 receiving yards
  • Five time Pro Bowler
  • Offensive Player of The Year

Each RB has freak abilities, whether that is dragging many defenders or hopping backward over defenders. Well, Henry led the league in broken tackles with 42!

Each RB has won an OPOY trophy. Henry has made five Pro Bowls and Barkley has made three Pro Bowls.

I’m not sold on the fact that Barkley won a Super Bowl and that Henry hasn’t. For 1. I don’t believe that the Eagles are a dynasty and that they will win another Lombardi trophy in the next couple of seasons. For 2. I believe that Lamar Jackson, who couldn’t escape the drops from Mark Andrews, will co-lead the Ravens alongside Henry to the Super Bowl and come out with the victory.

Each RB really benefits from their OL play. Per PFSN, the Ravens have the second best OL in football! Lamar is also a threat to run with the ball, which opens things up. Meanwhile, the Eagles are pegged with the 11th best OL, which is modest.

The Philadelphia Eagles can mow down defenders and control the clock. They ranked first in time of possession last season. The tush push helps them extend drives and give more carries to Barkley.

Both of these RBs are sure-fire first ballot Hall of Famers. With that said, one ball-carrier still has to be better than the other. I believe that Henry is the best RB. Not only is he consistent and more healthy than Barkley, but he’s a threat to take it the distance, which is surprising with his size. If Saquon wins another OPOY or Lombardi trophy, then I have to give him the edge.
