Best QBs in the NFC West
By: Jake Rajala
The NFC West is full of gifted, gutsy signal-callers that are exciting to watch. There is a combination of young and old QBs. With that simply said, I’m going to rank the best QBs in the NFC West.
4. Kyler Murray
Kyler Murray was once seen as a darkhose MVP candidate. Well, he hasn’t quite regained that magic. He went 3-8 in 2022, 3-5 in 2023, and 8-9 last season. Murray threw for 21 touchdowns and ran for 5 more touchdowns. Although, he threw 11 ints. PFF handed him a grade of 82.1, which was 15th among QBs.
On a side note, I believe he catches too much heat for being short (as he’s 5’10). Bryce Young barely gets insulted for his height.
3. Sam Darnold
Sam Darnold was simply on fire last season. All he did was throw for 35 touchdowns and 4,319 passing yards. Furthermore, he led his squad to a 14-3 record. He would be first on this list if he didn’t only have one season of an elite status. Perhaps he can repeat his 2024 success and surpass the reputation of Brock Purdy. He has a quality offensive mind in Kubiak calling the shots. PFF gave Darnold a score of 82.7, which was 12th among QBs!
2. Matthew Stafford
Honestly, the main reason why Matthew Stafford is second on this list and not third is due to his Super Bowl ring. He’s the only SB Champion in the NFC West. Stafford’s best season arrived in 2021, where he unveiled 41 passing touchdowns (although, he also threw 17 ints). Stafford also went 10-6 last season and 9-6 in the season prior.
1. Brock Purdy
The money man in the NFC West has the most potential on this list. He doesn’t have Deebo Samuel anymore, but he still has Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle. Purdy unleashed a 7.0 TD% in 2023, which was first in the league. He took a bit of a step back last season, as he threw 20 TDs to 12 ints. I’d love to see Purdy execute on more 2-minute drills.
In the end, the NFC West has four QBs that could make the Pro Bowl. I’m excited to watch an NFC West division that may feature three playoff teams next season! I would say that the Rams and 49ers could return to the big dance, as well.
