What is the floor and ceiling for Ashton Jeanty?

Ashton Jeanty Outlook

By: Jake Rajala

The Las Vegas Raiders rookie running back Ashton Jeanty has recently drawn praise in OTAs by the likes of Brock Bowers. Bowers said, “He’s thick, He’s pretty good”. That’s impressive that Jeanty has had the respect from an All-Pro player. Jeanty will be the best running back since Josh Jacobs in my opinion. With that said, I’m going to take a thrilling angle by untwining the floor and ceiling of Jeanty.

Jeanty has flaws, as he’s indeed human. He’s undersized, but that shouldn’t hold back his gifted quickness. He also isn’t the best pass protector. His route tree isn’t up to speed, as well. Jeanty only managed to haul in 138 receiving yards in his second season. Let it be known that Adrian Peterson wasn’t the best pass blocker or route runner. Yet, he managed to do quite well.

I believe his floor production is an average season from MJD. They’re both undersized and quick in space. I still believe Ashton is better than MJD, but he reminds me of his floor.

850 rushing yards and six touchdowns

Ashton is a RB that has traits that make him a Top-10 pick. There aren’t many RBs that possess his combination of speed and strength. All he did was elevate his production over the past couple of seasons. He ran angry for 1,347 yards as a sophomore and then 2,601 yards as a junior.

I could foresee Ashton having rookie success similar to Todd Gurley’s rookie production. Gurley ran for 1,106 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.

Ashton is the favorite to win OROY, according to Sports Betting Dime. RBs are often able to make a smoother transition to the NFL than young QBs making the switch from college to the NFL. It’s also easier for a RB to overcome flaws with the offense than a rookie QB with weaknesses in the offense. Not only is Ashton a safe pick, but the other rookie QBs taken aren’t quite in a golden situation.

The last RB to win OROY was none other than Saquon Barkley. Alvin Kamara won the award in the season before him.
