Will Kyler Murray get traded?
By: Jake Rajala
The 27 year old Arizona Cardinals quarterback, Kyler Murray was once seen as a Pro Bowl-caliber QB who has a style that’s hard to replicate. He won Offensive Rookie of The Year in 2019 and then he made the Pro Bowl in 2020 and 2021. Well, he surely fell off a cliff since then. His record over the past few seasons is 14-22. Yikes.
Given that Murray has been a loser that can’t come in clutch moments. A fair question arises: could Murray get traded?
I certainly believe that Murray could get traded. It’s especially hard to find a franchise QB. Murray still possesses some explosive plays and he is able to mostly take care of the football.
Teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, and Cleveland Browns could be in dire need of a new QB. They have young QBs that are unproven.
The Saints and Jets may even have more prominent weapons than the Cardinals. Plus, Murray isn’t only young, but he’s somewhat shaky. This means the Saints or another team doesn’t need to completely break the bank for him.
If the Cardinals traded Murray, they could likely roll with a QB2 QB3 in an NFL Draft. They already have young weapons (such as Marvin Harrison Jr), so it makes somewhat reasonable that the Cards add a young QB to grow alongside them.
The Cardinals can try to run it back with Murray. They were 11th in scoring last season. I’d like to see Murray have another shot in a Cards uniform with an offensive mind like Jon Gruden or Eric Bieniemy. Kliff Kingsbury was able to unlock Kyler. The NFC West has also been very competitive over the past few seasons. The LA Rams were 10-7, the Seattle Seahawks were 10-7, and the 49ers were very injury riddled and finished with a 6-11 record.
In the end, I expect Murray to be traded. If he has a couple of more pedestrian seasons, I expect they will pull the plug on him. Perhaps he could get traded for Deshaun Watson and some early draft picks.
