Could Prescott win CPOTY?

The 31-year-old Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is one of the most gifted QBs in the league. This is clear with him taking second place in the MVP voting in 2023. Well, he had the biggest flops among QBs. He only managed to throw 11 TDs to 8 ints in eight games last season. Furthermore, he had a record of 3-5. Dak saying “We suck” on the sidelines was a perfect line to explain their woes.
With that enunciated, a fascinating question arises: could the former Offensive Rookie of The Year Dak Prescott win CPOTY? I absolutely believe he can. Let’s not forget that he took second place in CPOTY in 2021!
Prescott has more firepower this season with George Pickens joining the WR group. All Pickens did last season was record 900 yards in 14 games. He averaged 15.3 YPC, after unleashing a league-best 18.1 YPC in 2023. Pickens is 24 years old.
The CPOTY award is a QB award. End of discussion. Joe Burrow won it in 2024, Joe Flacco won it in 2023, Geno Smith won it in 2022, and Joe Burrow won it in 2021!
This clearly plays in favor of Prescott.
The factors not in Prescott’s corner is that his strength of schedule is 22nd in the league and he plays in a division with the reigning Super Bowl Champions! Plus, their tush push will be back in action from Philly. The Washington Commanders are even a superb team that also reached the playoffs last season, as they were led by one of the best dual-threat QBs in Jalen Daniels.
The Boys OL is also not the behemoth unit that it once was. PFF graded the Dallas OL as the 17th best in the league.
They don’t have a prime Tyron Smith, Zack Martin, Travis Frederick, and La’el Collins.
The Cowboys also have a defense that ranked 31st in PPG allowed last season. It can be hard to play when you are forced to throw the ball to keep up. The balance is simply gone.
Dak is a very special player. I believe that he will bounce back and be the player that he was in 2023, which was him throwing a league-high 36 passing touchdowns. He also unleashed 37 passing TDs in 2021! It wouldn’t be a massive surprise if Dak won MVP and CPOTY in the same season.
