Overrated young NFL QBs right now
By: Jake Rajala
There are plenty of quarterbacks in this league that garner too much praise or walk the red carpet, yet don’t deserve to. In particular, there is too much praise put on some rookies. We have seen too many young QBs shine as rookies and then fall apart. We’ve seen this with Mac Jones, RG3, and Andy Dalton. With that said, I’m going to untwine a few overrated “young” QBs.
Trevor Lawrence
T-Lawrence was once seen as a quality sophomore QB who improved from his rookie season. Well, he hasn’t been anywhere near a QB that took a step up from his rookie campaign. He has a record of 10-16 over the past two seasons! He also threw 14 ints in 2023. PFF handed him a 76.8 grade in 2024, which was 21st among QBs.
Drake Maye
It isn’t clear in this simulation how Drake Maye went 3-9 and made the Pro Bowl last season. He also only had a 15-10 TD to Int figure. I don’t love that they failed to bring in a quality back-up, too. Joshua Dobbs might be a genius off the field, but he’s not going to push Maye for the starting gig on the field!
Anthony Richardson
I really don’t like that the Colts are letting Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones compete for the gig. Richardson has been a loose cannon over the past two seasons. He has a career 50.6 completion percentage and an all-time 11 passing touchdowns to 13 ints. He has Tim Tebow vibes to me. I’d love to see the Colts make a trade for Joe Flacco back.
Honorable Mention:
Shedeur Sanders
It was recently widely reported that the confusing draft pick Shedeur Sanders isn’t even a lock to make the Browns roster! He sits behind Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. He is duking it with Dillon Gabriel to make the roster in my opinion. Shedeur slid in the draft and he could have been undrafted if the Browns didn’t “draft their second rookie QB”.
