Landing spots for James Cook
By: Jake Rajala
James Cook, otherwise known as Dalvin Cook’s brother, is a very gifted running back. However, he’s disgruntled with his contract situation. Hence, there is a lot of speculation that he’s traded by the Bills. So, I’m going to untwine the best landing spots for him.
Dallas Cowboys
The Boys need an answer at running back. The glory days of Zeke are gone. The spark from Tony Pollard is gone. The Boys rushing attack was 27th in the league last season. The former Denver Bronco Javonte Williams is a less-than-desirable RB1, as he ran for 513 yards on 139 carries, last season.
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars could have a shiny QB-RB tandem with T-Lawrence and Cook for several years. The former Clemson Tiger Travis Etienne is simply not the answer at RB1. He merely ran for 558 yards on 150 carries. He isn’t overly impressive in the passing attack, as well (254 yards on 30 grabs). The Jags were also 25th in the running game last season.
Denver Broncos
The 2025 second round pick by the Broncos, RJ Harvey could be the long-term answer at RB. However, Sean Payton loves to utilize 2-3 RBs. We all remember Mark Ingram and Kamara wreaking havoc together. Cook would flat out be an upgrade over the Broncos RB2, who is Audric Estime. The Broncos need to seperate themselves in a division where the LAC and KC will be regular faces in the playoffs.
New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints star running back Alvin Kamara turns 30 in July. He is still slightly better than James Cook. He is on his last legs, which means he is ready to win a Super Bowl now. Cook could roll with a Saints offense that has a young QB situation and a youthful WR group. Perhaps the Bills could trade Cook and a mid-round pick for AK.
Cincinnati Bengals
James Cook is a step in the right direction to making the Bengals are well-balanced team. They have the best WR tandem in the league, but their RB room doesn’t cut it. Chase Brown is a well-balanced ball-carrier, but I’d prefer to see an upgrade, especially if they want to reach the big dance.
Honorable Mention:
Kansas City Chiefs
The Bills and Chiefs are worst enemies, which is why the Chiefs are my “honorable mention”. The Chiefs still need to find a way to reel in a stable, quality RB. The former 7th round pick Isiah Pacheco isn’t cut out to be a bell-cow RB. Kareem Hunt is also a year or two away from retiring.
If Cook refuses to play in the regular season, it would make sense for the Bills to trade him. The Bills are too good to be patient with his putrid attitude. A trade could even include a player, as previously noted.
