What is the worst case for the Steelers?
By: Jake Rajala
The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t had a losing record since 2003! Mike Tomlin has done a fine job of implementing a championship-level culture. With that said, I’m going to take a unique angle by untwining the best and worst case for the Steelers.
worst case
The Steelers let wide receiver George Pickens leave, which was a mistake in my opinion. The Steelers WR2 is Robert Woods and it’s safe to say he’s washed up. They also haven’t brought back former DPOY winner J.J. Watt quite yet. Of course, the Steelers new QB1 is none other than Aaron Rodgers. Sure, Rodgers has a talented arm. Nonetheless, he failed to make the playoffs last season. Plus, he couldn’t hang up elite numbers with Davante Adams. To make matters worse, the Steelers play the Ravens and Bengals twice each.
best case
The Steelers can get away with an inconsistent offense, if their defense can shut down opposing offenses. The Steelers ranked 7th in PPG allowed last season. They also ranked third in interceptions! We’ve witnessed Big Ben play semi-good, but stay in games, due to an elite defense. Rodgers was pedestrian last season, but he has bounced back from putrid seasons, to dominate in the season afterward. Plus, the Cleveland Browns are 27th and Bengals are 25th in PPG allowed.
The Steelers aren’t a favorite to win the AFC North in my opinion. However, I could foresee them making the playoffs as a wild-card squad. I’d love to see the Steelers come out aggressive, score, and force the foe to pass the ball against their elite pass defense.
