Graham can win DROY

The former University of Michigan DL Mason Graham was one of the most unblockable defensive tackles in college football last season. He was raw, but he made it work. He single-handedly took down Ohio State. With that said, I’m going to untwine why the behemoth can take the next step and win Defensive Rookie of The Year.

Graham has traits that allow him to excel. According to Kevin Patra of NFL.com, he is “pretty far ahead” already. Graham may bring back memories of former University of Michigan DL Aidan Hutchinson. “Hutch” could also lean on talent and motor to seize the day on Day 1. Myles Garrett also said Graham is “Hungry”.

Myles Garrett will steal a lot of attention from Graham. Myles is a Top-3 NFL pass rusher and Mason is a rookie. It will take time for foes to shift some attention from Garrett to Graham. Garrett could also kick inside to force foes to single-team Graham.

Let’s cut to the chase: Graham is playing on the DL, which is a popular spot to win DROY. Seven of the past 10 DROY winners came from the DL. DL can get sacks and make the big hit. They also can do sack celebrations. Hence, it’s safe to say they are often in the spotlight.
Not only is Graham NFL-ready and at the right position, but he can feast off against putrid divisional offensive lines. The Steelers were 25th and the Bengals were 22nd in sacks allowed last season! I’m sure Bengal fans have nightmares of Aaron Donald forcing an incomplete pass on the final moments of their Super Bowl showdown.
If Mason doesn’t win the award, I wouldn’t be shocked if the New York Giants DE Abdul Carter took home the gold.
