Realistic case for the Indianapolis Colts
By: Jake Rajala
The Indianapolis Colts arguably have one of the worst QB situations in the league. Thankfully, they still have Jonathan Taylor, who reminds me a lot of LaDainian Tomlinson. With that said, I’m going to take an intriguing angle by untwining the best and worst case for the Indianapolis Colts.
Worst case
I believe the biggest mistake would be to start Anthony Richardson over Daniel Jones. Anthony is like Tim Tebow, except Tebow is more clutch than him. The next brutal mishap that could hurt the Colts season is injuries, particularly to Jonathan Taylor. He missed a few games last season, seven in 2023, and six in 2022. The Colts also can’t afford to rank 24th in sacks if they want their defense to slow down CJ Stroud and Cam Ward.
Best case
I’d love to see Daniel Jones start. He is excellent off play-action, which helps with JT. The Colts also had the sixth fewest sacks allowed last season! Jones never had this type of protection in the Big Apple. They could also thrive from a quality kicking job by Spencer Shrader, who is entering his second season. Jones could also excel by not having high expectations. Meanwhile, Trevor Lawrence and Cam Ward are former first overall picks and can’t afford to lose fans.
The Colts are a very complex team. They have a tough OL and DL. Of course, they also have a Top-3 RB. However, they can’t find a talented, “consistent” QB. If Jones or Richardson can put up a Top-15 QBR, I would give him another chance to start in 2026. They may also have to decide if they should trade JT for the house if he continues to not stay healthy.
