What is the floor and ceiling for Joe Burrow?

Outlook for Joe Burrow

By: Jake Rajala

Joe Burrow has earned his mark as a former first overall pick. He has been elite, pedestrian, and sadly injured. Clearly, he has seen it all. Of course, he led his team to the Super Bowl, regardless of Burrow’s horrid pass protection. With that simply said, I’m going to unfold the floor and ceiling of Burrow.

Floor

It’s hard to peg a floor with his production from an entire season. He has been nothing short of phenomenal. His one knack is that he has struggled to stay healthy. He missed seven games in 2020 and seven games in 2023. It is no wonder that he won Comeback Player of The Year. His OL has let him down, to say the least. His OL ranked 22nd in sacks allowed a season ago. His second best weapon, Tee Higgins, also missed seven games last season and seven in 2023! Perhaps Cincy should look into adding Amari Cooper or OBJ.

I would say his floor is 30 touchdowns and 4,300 passing yards.

Best

Well, Burrow has done it. He led the league in passing yards (4,918) and passing touchdowns (43) last season. Unfortunately, he didn’t have a few monster victories against Super Bowl contenders, just as Josh Allen had. Burrow threw at least 34 touchdowns when he stayed healthy. Thankfully, Ja’Marr Chase has mostly stayed healthy in his career. He led the league in receiving yards (1,708) and touchdowns (17). I wouldn’t mind seeing them bring in former OPOY Michael Thomas for a visit.

I would say his ceiling is throwing 50 touchdowns and 5,000 passing yards.

Burrow reminds me a lot of Drew Brees. They are both stat machines, yet they are let down by their defenses. I’d love to see the Bengals add more toys, as Brees had Alvin Kamara, Jimmy Graham, Darren Sproles, and Marques Colston. Chase can’t do it all by himself.
