Trade candidate on each NFC South squad
By: Jake Rajala
The NFC South has a boatload of players that could qualify as trade candidates. With that simply said, I’m going to unfold the best trade candidate on each team.
New Orleans Saints: Chase Young
Chase Young was a bit of a bust last season, despite getting a hefty contract earlier in the off-season. Young only had 5.5 sacks, 21 QB hits, and 8 TFLs. PFF only gave him a grade of 66.8. Plus, Young has had injury habits in his career. Plus, the Saints still have a couple of modest DEs in Carl Granderson and Cam Jordan, who was barely worse than Young.
Carolina Panthers: Adam Thielen
Adam Thielen went from the WR1 spot to the WR3 spot over the past couple of seasons. Thielen isn’t only not overly productive, but he’s quite old (36). It would make sense for him to chase a Super Bowl ring, which could come in a Bills, Ravens, or Chiefs uniform before he reties. Of course, we witnessed DeAndre Hopkins flip from the KC Chiefs to the Baltimore Ravens.
Atlanta Falcons: Kirk Cousins
Kirk Cousins needs to be dealt. In a situation where he starts over Michael Penix, they are basically finished. We’ve seen the best of Cousins. I’d rather see Michael stay and work through growing pains. If he struggles, it’s clear that they need to rebuild. Cousins could be more productive in an offense with more talent. He isn’t going to evade the pass rush and throw a 40 yard bomb on the run in an offense that can’t protect him.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jalen McMillan
Jalen quietly had eight touchdowns last season! He is still the WR4 on the team! He is especially the WR4 because they drafted Emeka Egbuka in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Emeka will be the WR3 after Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. He deserves to be a WR2 on a squad somewhere in my opinion. The only reason I could see them holding onto him is because they are worried about Chris Godwin’s ability coming off an injury.
As previously noted, many players could be on the trade block. There are a wide variety of players on this list, too. There is a pass rusher, QB, and two WRs.
