Should the Broncos trade for Alvin Kamara?

Latest trade speculation

The Denver Broncos are led out by none other than Sean Payton. Payton is an offensive genius, make no doubt. He was at the top of his game with Drew Brees for a long time. One of Payton’s weapons was none other than Alvin Kamara, who shined in the run-and-pass game.

Kamara won Offensive Player of The Year in 2017. Since then, he has made four Pro Bowl selections. Last season, he made 1,493 total yards and eight total touchdowns.

With that said, Kamara isn’t getting any younger. Not only is Kamara 29, but he’s stuck in an offense that’s led out by Spencer Rattler (0-9) last season or a rookie Tyler Shough. Meanwhile, the chemistry isn’t only there between Payton and Kamara, but the Broncos are a playoff contender right now.

If the Broncos want to defeat the reigning AFC Champions, the Chiefs, they need more firepower.

A fascinating question arises: how bad do the Broncos need a star RB? They have a rookie RB named RJ Harvey who was taken in the second round of the draft. After RJ, they have the recent FA signing J.K. Dobbins. I believe it’s clear that they need a safer choice at RB.

Payton absolutely loves to have a few quality RBs on a roster at the same time. He once had Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram on the same roster. He also had Darren Sproles with Ingram. During the Saints Super Bowl run, he had Reggie Bush, Pierre Thomas, and Mike Bell.

If Payton wanted to go forward with a trade for Kamara, he wouldn’t have to break the bank for him at this stage in his career. It would likely cost them a third-round pick.

If the Saints traded away Kamara, they would have Kendre Miller, rookie Devin Neal, and Cam Akers. Miller has injury concerns. I’d prefer to see the Saints sign another FA like Zeke Elliot if they went down the road of shipping away Kamara.

If Kamara isn’t an option for the Broncos, it may be wise to consider trading for Taysom Hill. Hill is on his last legs. Perhaps the Broncos can squeeze out any remaining talent from him. If he can squat 700 pounds and run a 4.4 40 yard dash, he should be able to play a couple of more seasons.
