Floor and ceiling for Russell Wilson

Outlook for Russell Wilson

By: Jake Rajala

The New York Giants drafted Jaxson Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, but it makes sense to see the veteran Russell Wilson start in 2025. He has more experience than Dart and he’s blatantly a safe choice. With that said, I’m going to unfold the floor and ceiling for Russell Wilson.

Floor

Wilson takes care of the football and makes circus-like throws at the same time. Nonetheless, Wilson has absolutely suffered from putrid seasons. His worst season came in 2022, where he went 4-11! Yes, you read that correctly. In 2022, he didn’t only unleash a 4-11 record, but he also registered his worst statistical season: 16 passing TDs to 11 ints He didn’t bounce back the next season too much, as he went 7-8. Finally, he had a winning record in 2024 with a 6-5 record last season.

His 6-5 record last season came, despite being the 25th most sacked QB, and being offered little firepower, as well. He still made some surprising performances, such as when he beat the Bengals by a score of 44-38.

I believe that Wilson could throw 3,000 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and 17 ints as a floor.

Ceiling

How much juice does the 36 year old dual threat QB have left? Wilson may have thrown 10+ interceptions many times in his career. However, he has usually made up for it with a lot of touchdowns. Last season, he had a TD% of 1.5, as he threw 16 TDs to 5 ints. If he can’t put up fireworks, he knows he needs to take care of the football at the very least.

I could see Wilson throwing 30 touchdowns, 4,000 passing yards, and 7 ints as a ceiling.

Wilson’s Pro Bowl days could be behind him, but he can lead a team that has weapons that can shine in space and a defense that could succeed in takeaways. Just as Patrick Mahomes sat behind Alex Smith for a season, I could foresee Dart sitting in 2025 and then taking the keys to the offense from Wilson after one season. I’d imagine that Wilson requests a trade to play somewhere else at that point.
